The name „Clay Lincoln“ is made up of Cassius Clay and Lincoln Hawk, who was a character played by Silvester Stallone from the classic 80’ies movie “Over the top”.
Born in 1987, Clay grew up in Mitte, which is a district in the east of Berlin. Very early in his youth he got in touch with music and realized his major interests. School was definitely not one of them. Therefore he focused on the development of his production skills. He fooled around with several kinds of production software and produced his first “masterpieces” on which his former partner DYPOE rapped to. As time passed by he made the first step to the next level as he got to know Derik.
Both got along with each other right away and had their own interests for a cooperation. Clay wanted to find more rappers for his beats and Derik wanted to increase his available amount of beats. Soon after, the first songs were produced.
The “Team Jonni Botten” became aware of his talent shortly and consequently he produced the Beat to the track “Fackeln und Hunde” on the Crimetime LP, which stood out due to his monumental intensity.
Then, because of some unfortunate private incidents, Clay had to move to a little town close to Bremen. Basically he ended up in the middle of nowhere. Nevertheless he managed to occupy himself. He met the Bremen rapper “Molley” and produced multiple songs for him, which created a certain mental distance to Berlin.
In 2008 things rapidly changed. Clay moved back to Berlin, produced together with the Mindfeeders the “Jonni Botten Remixtape” and started to work together with Derik on the Mitterana Karma album. With the beat to the song “Wer du bist” he created an acoustical fireworks show. According to DaCapo, who mastered “Mitterana Karma”, it was the best beat on the album.
Monumental, shattering, increasing pretentious, intensive and blasting are the major characteristics of his beats, which have given him a lot of credit and a legit reputation in Berlins underground scene.
