Robin Weed aka „Spliffhanga“ was born in ’77 and is one of the hip – hop primary rocks from Berlin – Mitte. In the early 90’ies hip – hop is discovered as a new method of expression, which leads to the erection of a new community. Busy with itself, there is no time to take care of the East German youth that lacks of perspectives. Nevertheless, due to Wu – Tang, Mobb Deep and basketball the Berlin – Mitte flow creates itself without copying any role – models. The movement in central East Berlin becomes a symbol for courageous “creative artists”.
In 1995 the first rap songs come up. The classic “Alles was du willst” featuring Zloty Pippen becomes later on the intro on the “Spiel 77 – Blitzkrieg” tape. Thereafter, Robin Weed and Fidel Faxoe found “Das Elfte Gebot”. Together with “Metafa Mafia” and “Caputnix” they perform at the “Milchhof” for the first time. The audience clicked right away. Hip – Hoppers, skaters, sprayers, punks, rockers, hustlers and b – ballers soon formed a faithful fan - base. More and more sold out concerts follow, even in Switzerland.
DJ Jakoby 81 is the permanent artist on the turntables, who as well produced the totally sold out MEC “Mitte Massiv” single.
In 2001, Robin Weed decides to take the development of life over a musical career. He is convinced that the music industry depends on trends and economical interests, which make it hard to plan on a constant amount of money in order to finance one’s life. Nonetheless he continues to work on his lyrics and the release of his solo album.
In 2006 it is finally ready to hit the stores. But he didn’t make a solo album. His entire longstanding friends got their share. The album features Zloty Pippen, Don Jonson, Mr. Mick, Fidel Faxoe and Shitmo on beats of Jakoby 81, Timmi Handtrix, Ton – x u.v.a.
Because of his career the release was delayed many times. Still, there has been a constant demand for it, because good music overcomes the obstacles of time. Finally the album is going to be released this year by Jonni Botten.
Meanwhile Robin Weed lives and works in southern Germany.
